10K Pace Chart

Use this 10K pace chart to compare common finish times and find the pace needed per kilometer or mile. Each row also gives the 5K checkpoint for an even-paced race.

How to use the 10K pace chart

Find the target finish time in the first column, then compare the pace per kilometer and pace per mile. The 5K column is the halfway checkpoint for an even split. A 50-minute 10K, for example, is 5:00 per kilometer, about 8:03 per mile, and 25:00 at 5K.

If your goal time is between rows, open the 10K pace calculator and enter the exact time. The chart is a reference table; the calculator keeps the full precision.

Choosing a 10K goal time

A realistic 10K target is usually supported by recent training or race evidence. Use the chart to translate that target into a pace and a halfway checkpoint, not to choose a finish time without context. A pace that feels easy for the first 3K can be difficult to hold through the final 2K.

The 5K checkpoint should be close to half the finish time for an even race. If you pass 5K much faster than planned, the second half needs a correction. The split planner can show the effect of a negative or positive split.

10K pace in kilometers and miles

The chart uses the exact 10-kilometer distance and displays both pacing units. A 6:00 per kilometer pace equals about 9:39 per mile; a 6:00 per mile pace is much faster, about 3:44 per kilometer. Always check the unit before copying a plan.

If you train on a treadmill, use the pace/speed converter to translate the 10K target into km/h or mph. Incline and treadmill calibration can still alter the effort.

Frequently asked questions

What pace is a 50-minute 10K?

A 50:00 10K is exactly 5:00 per kilometer or about 8:03 per mile.

What pace is a 45-minute 10K?

A 45:00 10K is 4:30 per kilometer or about 7:15 per mile.

What pace is a 60-minute 10K?

A 60:00 10K is 6:00 per kilometer or about 9:39 per mile.

What is the halfway split for a 10K?

At an even pace, the 5K split is exactly half of the finish time.

How many laps is a 10K on a track?

A 10K is 25 laps of a standard 400m track.

Can I use this chart for a 10-mile race?

No. A 10-mile race is 16.0934 kilometers, so use the general pace calculator or a 10-mile plan.
